Admissions

Discovery Learning Center (DLC) welcomes applications from individuals who are serious about the acquisition of the English language; DLC is ready to provide them with an authentic, learning experience. Applicants are accepted without regard to race, national origin, creed, sex, or physical disability.

Admissions Requirements

An applicant for admission to a DLC program must be at least 18 years of age or hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants must complete the Application/Enrollment Agreement Form and return it to DLC’s administrative office. An interview will be arranged at that time. The purpose of the interview is to explore the applicant’s goals and abilities as they relate to the school’s programs and courses.

DLC adopts a quarter system that consists of four 10-week sessions. Though each of the four sessions starts on a specific date and all classes begin on the same day, some applicants may be accepted into existing classes up to the 5th week of each term.

The applicant must complete the Application/Enrollment Agreement form and pay the non-refundable application fee.

All international students, including students staying in the U.S. with F-1 visa and those who plan to apply for an initial F-1 visa, must study full-time (18 hours per week) at DLC and submit the following documents:

-A copy of passport and/or visa

-A copy of I-20s from the previous school

-A financial guarantee (e.g. a bank statement), verifying that the student has sufficient funds for all education and living expenses in the U.S. for one academic year

-If the bank statement is not under the student’s name, a financial affidavit of support form signed by a sponsor must also be submitted.

Applicants are then required to take a written placement test and have an in-person oral interview to ensure proper placement into the program.

English proficiency requirement for the TOEFL and Professional English Programs:

A Minimum TOEFL score of 53 or CEFR B1+ required to enroll in the lowest level (TP700A or PE800A) of these programs.
